Ex-F1 ace Davidson: Massa is rubbish, useless.

Ex-F1 ace Davidson: Massa is rubbish, useless.

Anthony Davidson has launched a stinging attack on former Formula 1 rival Felipe Massa, following the Brazilian's abject performance at Silverstone on Sunday that included no fewer than five spins en route to 13th place – and last – at the chequered flag.

anthony davidson "ex F1 ace". without knowing the full facts, it is a bit silly to rubbish massa. his car appeared to be undrivable, spinning in a straight line. is it not possible, as brundle implied, that there may have been something wrong in the engine mapping, or in the diff control? yes, massas performance yesterday was not up to expectations but he has won a lot more F1 races than davidson. further, i haven't seen any report from him, moaning about his car, or the rain. dont forget, webber went off nearly as many times, kimi spun twice etc. massa is still in joint first place, so he cant be that bad!

Did he really say that? I doubt it!

If he did, I'm with you on this one Richard, quite frankly what has the lad done in F1 to make such flippant remarks. Who wants to be good at being lapped...I for one would love to be rubbish or useless at it. I really respected Anthony Davidson until this alleged comment which again if true just reeks of sour grapes.

Massa was dire yesterday and his abject performance appeared to be down to limited ability in the wet without traction control and a clear problem with the setup of his car.

I think this is another sensationalist headline that has nothing to do with what AD actually said. His comments were aimed at Massa's ignoring the blue flags, nothing else...

I've always thought that Massa is a driver in a car far too good for him, and yesterday was just another race to prove that, but the point AD is tryiing to make is, to say the least, ridiculous!
So, Massa is a bad driver, because he stinks at being overlapped. I'm really happy AD settles for being good at that. If he gets back in to F1, maybe the price will be a recognition of his talent and a drive in a team that doesn't have the money to fix cars of drivers that don't let themselves be overlapped.
That said, in spite of what I've said of Massa, that overtaking at the Hairpin in Canada was one sweeeeet thing. He can be as good as he can be mediocre (and that, far too often, sadly).

Dean,it may have escaped your attention but a few weeks ago his team went bankrupt and pulled out of GP racing!

Well to be fair to Anthony Davidson, he was and is a master at the blue flags, having spent his entire career failing at one level or another. Actually F1 is a simple sport: it's guys in cars who you know will win, guys who would win if they were in the right car - and then guys like 'Ant' (a perfect nickname since he has been squashed by both minor and major talents throughout his racing career) who will never win no matter what they're driving.

Doesn't anybody read the article and comment on what was said, rather than what they thought was said?

AD was saying that Massa was always the first one to complain about backmarkers not getting out of the way when blue flags were waved, but that he was rubbish when in the same situation: i.e. Massa didn't get out of the way when blue flags were being waved at him and he was being lapped.

AD did not say Massa was a rubbish driver, just that he was rubbish when on the receiving end of blue flag action.

LOL Ellen, having read the last few days posts (and resisting the urge to join in with you as opposed to you) i think there might be a couple of candidates on my list for your disagreer's (is that a word..it's not but couldn't think of another one to replace it)...
Some of the f-ing f1 posters wouldn't know what they were on about if you gave em another 20 years to do so...then some of the others are so full of spite and vitriol that it's not even worth having a debate.
They know who they are and half of them revel in it..hence typing the majority of my posts in WSBK which seems to at least be able to have some debate without it ending up in a slanging match each and every time.

Graham & Ellen:
That's precisely what I said. Hinting, as AD does, that Massa's quality as a driver can be measured by his behaviour when he is a backmarker, is, as I said, ridiculous. Or am I totally wrong, and AD doesn't hint at that?
And what the Hell is that argument about "heroes"? Massa, my hero? I would be surprised if he is ANYBODY'S hero! There may be a lot of people out there who would call him "favourite driver" (e.g. brazilians), but even those are pining for the likes of Senna.
Actually, I would be surprised if there is ANY F1 driver out there who might be called a "hero"...

During the race Massa's car suffered serious problems with traction and if anyone wants to say that he cannot drive in raining condition, just looks back few weeks ago at the Monaco race. Regarding the rubbish and useless Brazilian, well, he drives a Ferrari and is the joint leader of the F1 championship. What does Davidson drives? Is that a whiff of jealousy in the air?.

Don't know what the headline refers to when it calls Anthony Davidson "ex F1 Ace". Ace of what, back markers? Either way, Felipe should take his comments that he sucks as a back marker mostly as a complement, right ? Other than that, I might be wrong but I think Felipe is the next best Brazilian racer since Ayerton Senna. I say this because Felipe is barely 27 and is on his way to beating Rubens Barrichello's accolades. That is, of course, should something terrible happen or should he be dumped by Ferrari. Will he be one of the greatest drivers ever (Ayerton Senna/Michael Schumacher league)? I doubt it. But he is definitely in a league above Anthony Davidson.
