The Stig – the enigmatic hero of popular BBC motoring programme Top Gear – has received high words of praise indeed, from none other than double Formula One world champion Fernando Alonso.
No, Pel got the push some time back. Is it REALLY a secret who The Stig is? Thought it was open knowledge it was a Brit race driver with the initials B C

Most people including Wikipedia agree about the BC theory, but it IS a moveable feast, nothing to stop them kitting up someone like Damon Hill, Martin Brundle or even Lewis (if his dad said it was OK)in the suit and helmet for a one off drive for charity...
Now that would be good, if it turned out Alonso was actually paying Lewis a compliment without knowing it

HOW WOULD HE KNOW? I KNOW WHO STIG IS......... ITS MY GRANDMOTHER, AND ALONSO BLOCKED HER FROM BEING HIS TEAM MATE, SHE WAS TOO FAST AND GOT HELPED IN & OUT OF THE CAR, HE SAID "SHE GETS PREFERENTIAL TREATMENT, SO I AM SULKING, PS TOYOTA!!! THEY HAD 4 WHEELS ON THE CAR"........... BUT SHHHHHHHHHHH
Mr. Davo - Read the news article properly. Stig gave ride to his passengers, just before the race, how does that explain LH being Stig?? His Dad doesn't let him compete against JB for Charity Triathalon, this is all the more risky venture.Control Freak Ron Dennis would throw fits if his contracted driver goes about driving in non racing event. LH was not allowed to participate in RoC last year by CF Ronn Dennis.
As for FA praising his competition, he will do that as long as he is not in direct competition. He has come out in defense of his former team-mate in recent times only to be bashed by some petty fans on various internet forums.
i thought it was tiff needell...and it was more of a secret because he is also on 5th gear...and did'nt it used to be johnny herbert...both really good drivers.
I've heard from a good source that "The Stig" is Julian Bailey the ex-touring car driver.
However, Mick if you are so sure who it is then please do tell

There were either 3 or 4 'Stigs' when Top Gear entered the Britcar 24 hrs last year (so the superstars didnt embarrass thmeselves too much or have to do too much night driving!) and none of them were names mentioned above!
The Stig also varies according to schedules for both filming and their own commitments.

BC....?
Ben Collins?
Cannot think of anyone else with those initials. No offence to Ben, but he's hardly F1 material - good sportscar driver that he might be - but impressing Alonso?
I reckon its still El Pel - right build for him - and Julian Bailey would not fit in that suit!

This one was maybe Marc Hynes?
He should have raced in F1.

Pel was dismissed some time ago after he thrashed a D-Type Jaguar which upset its owner left with a huge bill for new a transmission. It has been BC (yes dp20) since... All the Alonso chat is just PR talk..

The Stig at Silverstone couldn't be Julian Bailey. That bloke was guest commentator for ESPN that weekend.
Mick Jubb - Thanks for the compliment. It takes one to know one.
I'm nearly sure that its Ben Collins. In the Britcar 24hour race thing, you see the Stig in his white overalls, but they are unzipped at the top and on the fireproof clothing underneath, the name 'Ben Collins' in written across the chest. I could be wrong though!

Pretty sure that different drivers play "The Stig" For sure it was Heikki when Hammond tested the Renault F1 car. I expect that the same thing happens with the super high-end vehicles.
BC isn't the African Stig, thats for sure. That was an episode to remember. I love it juxtapostioned with the American epidsode. Poor and Happy vs. Rich and Angry! The Fat Stig was hillarious

The thing about the Stig is.........
He has more personality than a lot of the grid put together

I suppose everyone has a theory, but I think it is done by differnt drivers too. Having said that, I did read (and see a pic that seemed to prove as much) that he is actually a mere driver from Germany or Holland that isn't a 'name', hence why he is probably kept a secret!
And anyway, who cares who it is?? The enigma is pretty much what makes him such an icon, so why expose it for a fleeting moment of satisfaction!?
