Glock backtracks on world title claim.

Glock backtracks on world title claim.

Toyota's Timo Glock has admitted that his reported F1 world title ambitions are designed to put pressure on himself and will be hard to achieve.

timo, no harm in setting targets for yourself, but these should be realistic. bmw set targets to improve by one position each year, and they are steadily achieving this. so maybe a bmw championship in 2011??

Reality check urgently required but then again these guys live an unreal life in their unreal world. So come 'on Timo you can do it that's the target. He's still young isn't he.

I'm not sure what kind of targets Toyota and Glock initially set for '08, but whatever they were, these ought to be addressed first. In hindsight, how about both drivers finishing in the top ten by the end of the year, with the team in 4th? Aggressively chasing regular podiums throughout 2009 strikes me as a motivating goal, followed by gunning for a first victory in 2010. This is conditional on the manufacturer having a more no-holds-barred committment to the sport than has often been evident since 2002, however. Even making a show of dramatically poaching Alonso would at least show the rest of the world (and some very important paddock figures) that the cobwebs haven't settled after all.

Maybe they told him he would have to take a pay cut if he didn't win the title.
