Nelsinho Piquet has been lauded by his Renault team after producing the drive of his fledgling Formula 1 career to finish up on the podium in the German Grand Prix – from all the way down in 17th spot on the starting grid.
Alright, he was lucky but he drove very well - keeping a Ferrari and a BMW at bay in the current Renault is no mean feat. And his pace in the first half was good, too, considering the amount of fuel with which he started.

Greta drive! A little fortunate with the safety car yes, but at least he's now showing some of the potential he displayed in the GP2 class when he was racing alongside Lewis Hamilton... Did you hear the radio on the slow-down lap?? May as well have said "You just stuffed Alonso!" Brilliant!!

yes it was a brilliant drive by nelson and so what if he was lucky when the saftey car came out that is just GP racing all over, i noticed there is no comment of praise from alosto though
we dont if there has been praise from alonso or anyone else? u dont have a behind the scene camera. even if we did its their business. as team mates they appear to get on fine, like jarno and alonso did and fisi too.
Great drive from nelson! well done, he had a little luck but took it with both hands!
good luck nelson and fernando for hungry

I'm told Alonso congratulated Nelson on the Spanish TV channel Telecinco just after the race.

No, here in the US (sooooooo many commercial breaks) they din't transmit the radio on the slow-down lap... what did they say?

Piquet was in 15th place before the safety car came out.

brendan, squiggle - since i dont watch spanish tv i dont know that he did all i do know is that he did not congratulate him in his interview to the worldwide press after the race so does this mean that you should not say anything or comment on a driver just in case he said it to a different news agency i dont speak much spanish i do speak some but limited so i guess it is ok for him to have said it only to the spanish press maybe he is trying to respond to a direct question from them and that is why he said it. end of story
No doubt NP did a good job this weekend. It was also good to see only 3 DNFs & Glock was not hurt. It's good to take a step back & see that nobody got hurt on a competitive weekend.

powerline you sound like a saftey freak like rich ard this is racing and when people start to see and realise the amount of saftey in this sport the better. do you think an indy car can take the hamering an F1 car does on a head on impact well no way. the drivers have a life saving cocoon and it is there for a reason but since all the regs came in about slowing the cars down etc etc it has become boring these guys are paid millions a year to drive around a track and rely on team strategy to get them ahead its time we had some entertainment and let
the drivers earn their money for a change. I personally think that is why Michael Schumacher retired from F1 when he did all the traction control driver aids etc etc are going from F1 and i do not think he would be number one for very long and would have quickly slid down to DC's level (and i think dc is a great driver but he just lacked that final push with the car to get himself into a wc position)as in retiring.
P.S. no one wants to se anyone even get a bruise but it is motor sports and it is a fast and dangerous sport. It always will be but if it is to safe all the drivers will try to earn their pay by passing in the pit lane as in ms time

Barry, when my fave team wins, in this case, McLaren, I can afford to be laid back & do a bit of PR & try to be a nice guy

barry, once again i am puzzled by your comments. you criticise powerline for being a safety freak "like rich ard" when he made no comment other than that there were only 3 DNFs, and then go on to praise safety. anyway, i am not a safety freak, but what is wrong in a bit of safety for drivers anyway. we dont all want to see blood and gore, we want to see skill.
Thanks rich ard. That was pretty much what I wanted to say.

The sign of a good driver is being able to identify and take advantage of fortune when it comes their way, and NP really showed that at Hockenheim. A great driver will overcome bad fortune - makr of that what you will.

MS was in a Benetton in 94-95 and I recall it was common knowledge that they were !! using a form of traction control ( launch control ).FIA found out about it and Bennetton said it was just in the software and couldn't remove it, but they weren't using it, surprise surprise they got away with it, just like there was no penalty when it was found they had tampered with the SEALED fuel rig TO ALLOW MORE FUEL IN AT THE PIT STOPS, did anyone ever see how quick the fuel stops were compared to other teams on the same strategies....
how did piquet not deserve it? he showed on a level fuel load he had speed and he looked every bit as fast as everyone behind him. he had a better race than alonso, definitely. have you noticed that in bad renaults, it's the younger drivers getting the podium (kovi, piquet)?

Well squiggle you'd be right he did because that is the kind of person Fernando is when he gets the chance if piquet continues to be a good team mate to Alonso they should get on like FErnando did with Fisi in 05 /06
