Raikkonen 'will try rallying' after leaving F1.

Raikkonen 'will try rallying' after leaving F1.

Kimi Raikkonen has again evoked the possibility of pursuing a career in rallying once he decides to hang up his Formula 1 helmet – but he remains adamant that, for now at least, 'the desire to win' in the top flight 'hasn't decreased at all'.

Would suit the ice-man being in the drivers seat of a rally car... after all communication is strictly one way from co-driver to driver

Much as I love Kimi, to see a WRC season with Raikonnen, Rossi and Loeb all competing together would be terrific.

Maybe DC can join in now he's hanging up his F1 helmet - imagine him taking part in Rally GB on the Welsh roads of his homeland!

i just wonder why a guy, still in his 20's, is even entertaining the idea of leaving f1. i would have thought he'd relish taking the new crop of 'upstarts' hamiton, kubica, kovi (maybe), rosberg(ish)...and the soon to be reinvigored alsonso on slicks...

As someone who has both raced and rallied I can tell you that there is far more satisfaction from the simple act of driving a rally car than there is from driving a racing car. I can't imagine driving round and round in circles again for fun!

he'll only be allowed to drive the cars that the control freaks at Ferrari say he can drive

Urmm DC, hate to point this out, but DC is well...Scottish. And definatly not Welsh. Note the Scottish flag on his helmet.

Otherwise Kimi, Loeb and Rossi would be good...leave DC to commentate so he can whine at everyone in the outspoken way he usually is.

i haven't seen the full transcript, and even then without hearing it, it's impossible to contextualise this exert from crash (which too many on here like to do either due to laziness or to suit their arguement) but i will say it'll take a very determined, and brave (some may say stupid) person to turn away from $25m/year for surely that could extend for another 4-6yrs minimum!!
also worth noting, 'ferrari' are the experts at sandbagging!!

finland has always produced great rally drivers, kimi might think he's got enough money, his heart does'nt seem to be in f1,perhaps rallying is where his heart really lies...i for one would look forward to see kimi in the wrc....preferably in a scooby..... dc is scottish not welsh like me...

david winstanley, agree totally with your comments. rallying is a far more skilled sport and requires much more bravery. few F1 drivers would be able to cope with the demands of stage driving. some of the 60s drivers excelled at both, clark, elford etc but if kimi wants to give it a go, good on him!

As a rally fan, I really hope the WRC doesn't turn into the place all the F1 drivers go when they're bored of F1. What with Kubica threatening to go, and now Raikkonen, chances are these drivers are more likely to get a top seat drive than the "proper" rallyers who are climbing up through lower ranks.

Watching Kimi at Silverstone, I thought he'd taken up rallying already....

What is it with Finland - makes me wish I'd learn't to drive there!

Problem for Kimi is. There's no favouritism in WRC for one team like in F1. Wounder if Fiat are thinking of entering WRC ! !

F1 or WRC... Hmmm, WRC is very week at the moment a very small shadow of its former self, with little manufacture interest and a pretty weak field of drivers. It's sad to see what the WRC has become.

I agree with FooAtari.

It would be great to see Audi, Lancia and Toyota back. Does it need ex F1 drivers to bolster it profile? They may shadow the existing drivers with TV coverage!

Talk about stirring it up. Kimi doesn't help himself or the rumour mill by saying things like this. FA will now be very hopeful if a Ferrari drive in the near future.

Maybe it's all strategy, who knows? But who's strategy?
