Massa evokes possible pit-stop change for Ferrari.
Felipe Massa has admitted that Ferrari could be forced to do away with its unique and controversial ‘traffic lights' pit-stop method, after a third catastrophic error in as many races saw the 27-year-old slip seven points adrift of the Formula 1 World Championship lead following the inaugural Singapore Grand Prix at the weekend.
I noticed that for Kimis's final stop (apart from the one in the wall)the lollipop had been retrieved from the truck and pressed into service.
I wonder if Martin Brundle's prediction came true and the traffic lights were dumped in the paddock skip? If being released early equals a drive through, the Valencia stewards should explain why a 25 second penalty wasn't imposed after the race.

You know it's very funny that this webiste has not slammed Felipe Massa and Ferrari for the horrible race they had in Singapore. If Lewis and McLaren had made the same stupid mistakes made by the Ferrari drivers. The Headlines on this site would've read "Lewis Blows it in Singapore" or "McLaren Buckles under the Pressure at Singapore". Crash.net you guys really need to show some fairness in how you report the activity in F1.

So why didn't he recieve a pit stop penalty for nearly colliding with another car at Valencia? Oh I know, it's because this penalty wouldn't have any effect on the championship cos he had already *****d the race up!
Nobody has mentioned about the trail of fuel being discharged from the hose down the pitlane.Could anyone imagine what a small spark could have caused? Of course that was not as dangerous as Lewis Hamilton's driving last time out!!
Has any one noticed that Ferrari seem to have it in for Adrian Sutil?
Monaco - Sutil was running second or third and Raikkonen runs into him. Valencia - Massa is released into path of Sutil. Singappore - Massa is released into path of Sutil with Fuel Hose attached.

William the reason no one has mentioned it because there is a safety shut off valve as soon as the rig realise something is wrong it and shuts down. No more fuel pumps out and all is safe.

Of course the pump stops delivering fuel in the event a system issues, but there was fuel still in the hose when he ripped it off. It was clear on television that Felipe had spewed a bit of fuel on the pit lane and his tank cap was still open so had a spark occured Felipe Massa would've lost more than the race my friend, he would've been the second Brazilian killed in F1.

Bodie, dont forget Valencia 2008, Massa rejoins curcuit and causes Sutil's crash into the barriers. Damn lucky he never got a 10 place grid penalty for Japan for that one!
There's a fundamental difference between the lights and the lollipop: once the light goes green, there's nothing to stop the driver. Even if he can still see the light, he won't look at it. The lollipop however, can be slammed back down on the nose of the car, the driver will notice it, and hit the brakes. We've seen it happen dozens of times, for instance with DC's botched pit-stop in Singapore.
Not being able to correct a mistake can lead to unnecessary dangerous situations, so the FIA should ban Ferrari's system.

Does anyone know the rules for working on the car in the pit lane are, as from the pics and vids ive seen the first people to attend to Massa at the end of the pit lane were not mechanics.
29.2 Whilst being used during the qualifying practice session or the race all team personnel working on the car must wear clothing which will protect all parts of their body from fire.
If the hose is attached to the car is that classed as being used? If so what punishments are available?
While i would love to find something on Massa that would point all the blame on him, I can't. Clearly the light went green on him and he took off, much the same if the lollipop was lifted prematurely. Any driver would have the same reaction. Even though in all fairness, some dirt on Ferrari would be much welcome nowadays.
However I would love to see the race stewards or the FIA, penalize Ferrari as a constructor somehow. The traffic light system is blatantly flawed as we have seen and has created some VERY dangerous situations.
Unfortunately, the words "FIA, Ferrari and penalize" NEVER go together in the same sentence.

Yes it do Jon748. In the sentence: "FIA will never, ever penalise Ferrari..." The thing will most probably be baned. But, and here i really ask the question, have other teams ever been penalised for raising the lollipop too quickly? If it is the case, then i think they deserved it indeed. On the otehr hand, if it is not, then the light system must have been allowed by the FIA. The use of the thing, as flawed as it seem to be, don't warrant a penalty in itself. But if there is penalty in the book for risking mecanics safety in a botched pit release, then they deserve it. And i'm not talking about releasing the car in the way of another, cause they do have been penalised for that one.
If the light system worked properly (in testing OR during race), then i agree the FIA should have no problem with it. A problem with the light system or an incorrectly raised lollipop is one in the same. I don't know the inner workings of the system, so I cant say much about that. Either way, the incident caused a near run in, spilt petrol, a nearly ran over pitman and a overall dangerous situation dragging the hose down the pit lane.
In the other hand, Massa was given a drive thru penalty, Kimi crashed out and Massa ended up placing 13th. So it's not like they they could of taken anything away from them.

They could give grid penalty's for the launching of a fuel hose as well as coming back on to the racing line and wrecking Sutil. The hose looked like a helicopter blade. And correct me if I am wrong but do the cars still have side mirrors? When you see your hose and crew members coming at you it may be time to put the brakes on. He was going to drive on the track with the hose attached if had stayed in place. Why no major discussion on total disregard for safety. Kimi and Massa were both desperate on the track and both wrecked. So what if they didn't score points. Many drivers not in the points have been penalized for infractions. So if your not going to score points you can do anything

rob I don't think that you can blame Massa for either of these incidents. I just watched the spin again. He came to a stop on the racing line. Massa could not see far enough around the corner to see Sutil. If Massa stayed put I think Sutil would have hit him. Sutil hit the barrier in the same spot that Massa did.
On the pit incident if he stopped like you recommend he could have stopped right in front of Sutil causing an accident. He probably did the safest thing he could have done. I think that leaving the pit box is propaby the worst place to look in the mirror. With so many people around you should not look away from where you are going.
Mark. Surely it was because Massa moved off into the way of Sutil that Sutil had the option of either hitting the wall or Massa.Personally i think he should have gone for the latter.
With regard to the Ferrari lights, it would seem fairer in terms of safety and impartiallity if the FIA made every team use that system.

Mark, I do blame Massa because he was at the wheel. If it had been the first time something had gone wrong with the system I could see your point. The system has failed on more than one occassion. I would be looking at the light and use my mirror at the same time. I do it all the time in my own car. Its not that hard.
