Ferrari test driver, Marc Gene gave the Scuderia's new V8 litre engine its first run Tuesday, when he completed nearly 100 kilometres at Fiorano - Ferrari's private test track.

The Spaniard, who was at the wheel of a modified F2004, enjoyed dry and sunny conditions, carrying out 'an engine testing programme aimed at next season'. Ferrari reported no problems during the day and Gene notched up 38 laps - 8 of them on the short version of the track. His best time was a 59.966 seconds.

Ferrari however, is not the first team to begin running on track with their new V8 engine, as Toyota and BMW have already track tested their new units, prior to the German Grand Prix.

The Scuderia now continue running at Fiorano on Wednesday, again with Gene.
