Having wrapped up the DTM title at the weekend, Gary Paffett is to be given another chance to impress behind the wheel of an
F1 car when he takes part in a test for the McLaren-Mercedes team.
Paffett, who has previously tested for the team, has made no secret of his desire to move into Formula One and was widely linked with a race seat with Sauber for the 2005 season before team boss Peter Sauber elected to bring in Jacques Villeneuve to partner
Felipe Massa.
However he will now given the chance to showcase his talents once more to the F1 paddock as a reward for claiming the DTM title last weekend at Hockenheim, although Paffett admits that his chances of following another ex DTM racer Christijan Albers into Formula One next season are slim.
"I can savour the achievement of winning the championship and look forward to the test, because it is a step in the right direction to
Formula One, which is where I want to be eventually," he said on his personal website. "Let's see what happens. At the moment, it looks like I'll be defending my title in the DTM, because there are no race seats available in F1 next year.
"That in itself will be a massive challenge for myself and the team, who I have to thank for giving me such a fantastic car this year."
