ITV F1 commentator, James Allen has predicted that McLaren-Mercedes and
Ferrari will lead the way in 2006.
Speaking to
Crash.net Radio recently, Allen added that he expects it to be another good season of F1 racing, although he suspects
Renault won't be able to defend their titles, something that will leave
Fernando Alonso unable to hang onto his crown. All of which is good news for the likes of
Kimi Raikkonen, Juan Montoya and
Michael Schumacher.
"It is hard to read it at the moment [how things will shape up this year] because obviously everyone is testing different things at the moment - engines and chassis wise," he noted.
"The headlines to me though look like being:
Bridgestone is back in business, which means Michael Schumacher and Ferrari will be back in business too.
"I would have expected McLaren-Mercedes to start the season as the team to beat but I am slightly concerned about their engine, it just doesn't sound at the moment like it is all that clever. But I am sure that Mercedes will turn it around.
"Renault look pretty strong in early testing.
Toyota look much stronger than they did last year and they are obviously on Bridgestone tyres as well. But I expect the championship fight to be between the McLarens and the Ferraris."
