ITV F1 commentator Martin Brundle was honoured for his 2005 Formula One commentary at the coveted Royal Television Society's Television Sports Awards on Wednesday night.

As a former grand prix driver-cum-commentator, Brundle has illuminated and engaged English-speaking audiences across the world for more than 150 races with the ITV F1 team, a figure almost on par with the number of F1 races the erstwhile McLaren, Ligier, Brabham and Jordan driver competed in.

The 2MB Sports Management director admitted the ITV platform allowed him to continue his love affair with Formula One, but added that a day out in an F1 car last week reminded him how much he missed the driving, although he conceded the sport was even more 'fascinating to observe' from the media box.

The ITV F1 team was also recognised in a separate Sports Innovation Award for their 'succinct, sparky and brilliantly informative' approach to broadcasting F1.
