Ferrari test driver, Marc Gene got a first-hand taste of
MotoGP action on Sunday, when the Spaniard was treated to a ride on the Ducati Marlboro Team two-seater at Catalunya, ahead of the latest round of the MotoGP World Championship in Spain.
Like at Mugello two weeks ago, when
Michael Schumacher rode the Ducati two-seater, regular pilot and former GP winner, Randy Mamola was on hand to show the 32-year-old exactly why two-wheel racing is so good. Gene was treated to two high-speed laps and was astonished by Mamola's aggressive corner entries.
"I was pretty calm before the ride, then when I saw the bike go down the straight from the pits, I realised the speed," he said.
"It was going into the corners that impressed me most. I couldn't understand the physics of how the bike could go into the turns at such a high lean angle. Every time I thought ‘that's it', the front end is going to go, we're on the ground, but it was okay. Randy was trying pretty hard, I could feel the bike moving around when the rear was spinning coming out of the turns, but going into the corners was for me the most impressive thing."
