Formula 1 » Klien surprise frontrunner in P3.

Saturday, 29th July 2006

Christian Klien emerged as the surprise pacesetter in the final practice session before qualifying for the German Grand Prix, although Michael Schumacher's likely timesheet topping lap was ruined by a heavy off for Sakon Yamamoto.

Expected to do big things this weekend, Toyota have yet to show their true pace, although their situation was made none the easier by Jarno Trulli experiencing a mechanical problem before setting a time, putting him under pressure ahead of qualifying. Ralf Schumacher was 16th fastest.

Jacques Villeneuve was 17th best in the second BMW ahead of Tiago Monteiro in his MF1 Toyota, the Anglo-Russian team somewhat struggling this weekend.

Yamamoto meanwhile actually outpaced the more experienced Sato before his crash in 19th place, while Super Aguri will take encouragement from being comfortably ahead of the second MF1 of Christijan Albers who was 21st and last of the runners.
