McLaren-Mercedes test and reserve driver, Gary Paffett has a 'number of opportunities' for next season in Formula One, according to his co-manager, Mark Blundell.

Asked if he thought it was strange that McLaren hadn't given Paffett or Hamilton a chance to race this season following Juan Pablo Montoya's exit, especially given that they are pretty comfortable in third place in the constructors', Mark agreed it was a bit of odd.

"I am a little bit surprised they have kept with Pedro de la Rosa and have not put in Gary or Lewis Hamilton. I think they had a great opportunity to try out some of their new talent, which are part and parcel of the McLaren family, and to evaluate them with not a lot resting on it in terms of the constructors' and so on," he added. "It does surprise me as they are now going to have to make some choices [for 2007] and put someone into the car for next season, based on no grand prix experience - if they do what they said they might, which is to take on someone from within the McLaren set-up."
