Ferrari has confirmed that it will retain the services of test driver Marc Gene for the 2007 Formula One season.

Ferrari has confirmed that it will retain the services of test driver Marc Gene for the 2007 Formula One season.

Gene joined Ferrari at the start of 2005 after four years in a similar position with Williams, having started his career in a race seat with Minardi.

With the amount of testing in F1 having been reduced for next season, it remains to be seen how much testing Gene will actually carry out, with Luca Badoer acting as the Scuderia's main test driver and also as reserve to race drivers Felipe Massa and Kimi Raikkonen.

"He will remain at our disposal if required to be involved in testing," a Ferrari spokesman told Reuters. "He will be with us next year but with the reduction in testing, it is less likely that he will do too many kilometres."

Gene has 36 grand prix starts to his name, with a best finish of fifth in the 2003 Italian Grand Prix while standing in for Ralf Schumacher at Williams.
