Christian Klien was given the chance to turn his first laps for
Honda on Wednesday on the second day of
Formula One testing at Catalunya.
The former
Red Bull Racing ace, who has been brought into the Honda team to replace
Anthony Davidson after the Briton finally secured a race seat for the 2007 season with
Super Aguri, joined
Rubens Barrichello on track in Barcelona for what was the second day of testing for the Brackley based team.
Taking over the car used by James Rossiter on the opening day of the test, Klien spent the day familiarising himself with the team, with his early runs focused on acclimatising to the RA106 and the new
Bridgestone tyres new to both driver and team for 2007.
The new test and reserve driver then worked through a programme focused on tyre evaluation and chassis set-up work logging 79 laps and posting the eleventh quickest time, just four tenths of a second behind his team-mate.
It's been a great first day as a Honda driver, Klien said afterwards. After some initial familiarisation with the car I basically got straight down to work helping the team to start developing our partnership with Bridgestone and looking at how we can get the best out of the new tyres.
I did quite a lot of running for my first day 79 laps and I worked well immediately with the team and engineers. It's a very positive atmosphere and I think I have made a good contribution. I'm very happy and looking forward to more of the same tomorrow.
Klien continues testing at the Spanish circuit alongside Barrichello today.
