Red Bull Racing is finally ready to challenge for consistent podium places – that is the view of test-driver Michael Ammermuller, as the Milton Keynes-based squad gets set to return to the scene of its only rostrum to-date – Monaco.

A difficult start to the 2007 campaign was the catalyst for a major step forward before the Spanish Grand Prix, the first meeting of the European leg and fourth round on the 17-race calendar. The result was a competitive fifth-place finish for David Coulthard in Barcelona, ahead of both works Renaults and not a million miles adrift of Robert Kubica in the BMW-Sauber.

With the Scot having also come home third around the streets of Monte Carlo last year, leading GP2 ace Ammermuller believes Red Bull is now in a position to at last fulfil its potential – and that means regular rostrum appearances.

“They are getting better and better as the season goes on,” the German told Crash.net during last weekend's nostalgic GPlive celebration at Donington Park. “At the moment I would say we are the fourth-best team and now I think we can fight with BMW.

“For sure now it will be a lot more difficult to develop that much again, but I think we will have a good chance to fight for podiums in some races.”
