Fisi fails to escape officials' wrath.

Giancarlo Fisichella (ITA) Renault RS27, Hungarian F1, Hungaroring, 3rd-5th, August, 2007

Giancarlo Fisichella loses five positions on the Hungarian Grand Prix grid after being judged to have blocked Sakon Yamamoto.

Comment on this Story
Although they spent much of the day preoccupied by the McLaren saga, Hungarian Grand Prix officials still managed to find time to exert their wrath on Giancarlo Fisichella, the Italian dropped five places to 13th on the grid for blocking.

Fisichella was considered to have impeded Spyker's Sakon Yamamoto at the end of the first knockout session, the Italian coming out of the pit lane ahead of the Japanese driver and remaining in front for the duration of the lap.

Although Fisichella was running out of seconds with which to get around and start his lap, officials particularly frowned upon him slowing around the blind final corner, causing Yamamoto, on a flying lap, to brake too.

While Fisichella would later blame a Toro Rosso for doing the same thing to him, causing him to brake, the Italian's reasoning was not enough for the stewards.

Going on to qualify eighth, Fisichella has now slipped to 13th position behind team-mate Heikki Kovalainen. It promotes Jarno Trulli to eighth, Mark Webber to ninth, David Coulthard to tenth, Kovalainen to 11th and Alex Wurz to 12th.
