Paffett: McLaren won't get complacent.

Formula 1 » Paffett: McLaren won't get complacent.

Friday, 17th August 2007

Gary Paffett has warned McLaren's rivals that the team are continuing to develop and are not getting complacent.

Comment on this Story
McLaren test driver Gary Paffett claims the team will not allow themselves to get complacent over the remainder of the Formula 1 season, despite their comfortable advantage in both championships.

New testing guidelines have forced Paffett to spend much of the season helping develop the MP4-22 away from the track, the Brit instead embarking on a stop-gap season racing in the DTM before, if the rumours prove true, he returns to F1 in 2008.

Nonetheless, while McLaren, who have spent much of the last few weeks dominating the F1 headlines following the controversial Hungarian Grand Prix, continue to hold the upper hand over rivals Ferrari, Paffett has insisted that they will keep developing until the titles are secured.

“We've had a great season so far and the last few races have been very good, so we should focus on that. It is easier to stay motivated when we are doing well.

“We should use this time improving on what we have, we can't become complacent, we have to be ahead of the game. This is what we are doing; focusing on straight line testing, simulation and just trying our hardest to make sure we're 100 per cent ready for the next race.”
