Williams had mixed feelings following qualifying for the Turkish Grand Prix,
Nico Rosberg securing eighth on the grid, while Alex Wurz managed only 16th around Istanbul Park.
Something of a disappointing outcome for the team given their impressive showing throughout free practice, neither Rosberg nor Wurz were entirely satisfied with their performances given their earlier potential.
For Rosberg, eighth is another top ten starting position, but with just a tenth separating him from seventh place
Heikki Kovalainen, the German admits he was disappointed not to eke out that extra bit of pace that could make all the difference come race day.
“If you had asked me on Thursday about our likely qualifying performance, I might have told you I wasn't sure that we could be strong here. Today my view has changed and I am a bit disappointed I didn't claim P7 by a margin of one hundredth of a second, which, overall, is better than I anticipated.
“It was very close between me and Kovalainen right through Q2 & Q3. Seventh would have been possible today, but we needed to get everything absolutely right. The first six cars ahead of us are on paper too fast to catch tomorrow, but 8th position is not bad and gives us a good chance in the race.”
Wurz however was even more frustrated with his final position, particularly as he went into the second phase of qualifying having produced a top ten lap during the opening knockout stage.
However, when he made a mistake on his first lap, it was down to Wurz to produce a flying single lap as the clock ticked down, something he has struggled to do this year. As a result, the Austrian was slowest of the Q2 drivers and will therefore start on the eighth row of the grid.
“The first session went okay and the car felt fine, in the second session though I was fighting with the balance, which I tried to ignore, but on top of that, I made a few little mistakes which you can't afford when it is so close, so overall I am disappointed. We'll see what tomorrow brings.”
