Wurz: I want to stay ahead of Rosberg.

Alex Wurz (AUT) Williams FW29, Turkish F1, Istanbul Park, 24th-26th August, 2007

Formula 1 » Wurz: I want to stay ahead of Rosberg.

Wednesday, 5th September 2007

Alex Wurz wants to hold onto ninth in the constructor standings, ahead of Nico Rosberg.

Alex Wurz has set himself the target of returning to the points in the Italian Grand Prix as he seeks to keep Williams team-mate Nico Rosberg behind him in the standings.

Despite criticisms about his performance on his return to full-time racing, Wurz is still classified ninth in the standings, ahead of Rosberg, following his third and fourth place finishes at Montreal and the Nurburgring.

With that in mind, the Austrian is keen to maintain that advantage over Rosberg and also to Red Bull and Toyota in the constructor standings, as the series heads to Monza for the 13th round of the championship.

“We have Monza coming up this weekend, which is always a special race because of the Tifosi,” said Wurz, who finished fifth for Benetton on his last visit to the circuit. “I also enjoy the Italian lifestyle, so it's nice to spend a few days there. The circuit is the last remaining high speed track on the calendar and I really like driving it.

“It always takes a while to get used to it but once you've adapted your driving style and tuned your brain into it, it's challenging, but it's great. I usually have good races at Monza, so I hope that continues for the coming race weekend. I want to chase a few more points to keep ahead of my team mate and so the team can move comfortably ahead of Red Bull and Toyota.”
