Friday, 5th October 2007

Court of Appeal hearing called following Williams questioning.

The FIA has announced that International Court of Appeal is to meet later this month to discuss the legality of Prodrive's planned entry into Formula 1.

The announcement comes after Williams wrote to the governing body to question the legality of the plans that will see the Banbury-based outfit become the newest team on the grid next season.

Prodrive was planning to use a customer car for its entry into the sport, but with the new Concorde Agreement yet to be agreed, it remains to be seen whether or not chassis sharing will be allowed – which could in turn throw Prodrive's plans into turmoil.

"Further to the receipt of a letter from the Williams F1 team regarding the legality of the entry of Prodrive F1 in the 2008 FIA Formula One World Championship, the President of the FIA has made a referral to the FIA's International Court of Appeal (ICA) under Article 1 of the ICA Rules of Procedure," an FIA statement read.

The hearing will take place in London on 24 October, with a decision expected the following day.
