Team boss unsure whether Austrian will retain seat into 2008.

Having worked to get back into a Formula 1 race seat, Alex Wurz could find himself on the outside looking in again in 2008 after Frank Williams admitted that he doesn't know if the Austrian will retain a race drive with the team next year.

Wurz was moved up from a testing role following the departure of Mark Webber to Red Bull and has currently scored 13 points this season - just two less than young team-mate Nico Rosberg.

However, the 33-year-old has struggled to qualify all year and while Rosberg has lined up inside the top ten on eight occasions, Wurz has managed no better than eleventh - falling at the first hurdle at six events.

Wurz found himself watching on for the first free practice session in Shanghai as test driver Kazuki Nakajima was given time in the car, with the young Japanese driver going on to post the ninth quickest time.

With Wurz then back in the car for the second session, Williams had chance to see all his drivers in action before facing the press in the Friday press conference - where he refused to admit whether Wurz will retain his seat next season.

"I think Nico is a star of the future," he said. "Alex has been very reliable but I am not sure whether he is going to race again next year.

"Nakajima - too soon to say if he will have an outstanding future or a medium future in F1, but I think he is Formula One material."
