Paul Jackson tips Timo to succeed in Formula 1 - if he gets the chance.

Comment on this Story
iSport International team boss, Paul Jackson believes that Timo Glock definitely deserves a chance in the FIA Formula 1 World Championship in 2008.

Glock, who managed to secure the GP2 title this season - eventually beating Lucas di Grassi by 11 points - already has a fair bit of Formula 1 experience under his belt, thanks to his position as a BMW-Sauber test driver.

He was also a test driver with Jordan in 2004 and took in four grand's prix back then, when he replaced Giorgio Pantano, scoring two points on his debut in Canada, when he finished seventh overall.

Jackson reckons the youngster could be the 'next big thing'.

"Timo should, in my opinion, definitely be in Formula 1 next year," he told Bridgestone's latest Racing all over the World GP2 podcast recently.

"I hope that there is one smart team owner out there who is going to turn around and say: ‘yes, that is the guy for us'.

"He will be an asset to a Formula 1 team and I think he will be in the same league as [Nico] Rosberg and [Lewis] Hamilton. If he can get himself in a decent seat, he will be very competitive."

Asked though if Glock might benefit from another year testing, Jackson added that in his view he is 'ready to race'.

"He has obviously enjoyed his time testing for BMW, but he desperately wants to race and that is why I think he has been talking to some other teams because, obviously, BMW's driver line-up is set for next year," Jackson continued.

"He is talking to other people and seeing if there are some options open to him. If there isn't, then he will obviously carry on with BMW and test for them next year.

"But he is a racer at heart and loves nothing more than getting out there and mixing it," he added.
