Williams looks set to move its test team away from its UK base to far warmer climes, in a deal that could give Spanish youngsters their break in the top flight.
According to reports in Spanish newspaper
Diario AS, the Grove-based outfit has nearly reached an agreement with the local authority the Generalitat Valenciana to base its test team near to the Valencia circuit on the country's eastern coast, scene of the new FW30's shakedown late last month. The exact location has yet to be determined.
The intention is to accommodate the test team and thus save a lot of money on transfers [between Britain and Spain, the sport's most frequented testing venue], the article explained.
In return, young Spanish aces will be given the opportunity to test Williams
F1 cars, with the first name to be mooted for a drive 19-year-old Dani Clos, the 2007 F3 Euroseries ace who spent the recent Barcelona test in the team's pit area.
The paper claims that Williams similarly explored the option of basing the test project at the Circuit de Catalunya, but that no acceptable financial terms could be reached.
