Stars of past and present to grace 'Double Twelve' event.

Lewis Hamilton will join one of his biggest admirers, Sir Stirling Moss, at this year's Brooklands Motoring Festival, dubbed 'The Double Twelve', this summer.

Both will be making driving appearances at the 28-29 June event at the famous old circuit in Surrey, despite the Festival falling just a week before Hamilton turns out for McLaren at the biggest event of the UK motorsport calendar, the British Grand Prix at Silverstone.

“Brooklands was the birthplace of circuit motor-racing as we know it today and witnessed countless world records being made after its opening in 1907," Peter O'Halloran, managing director of Mercedes-Benz World, commented, "It was therefore extremely fitting for us to welcome key figures on the current circuit such as Lewis Hamilton and racing legend Sir Stirling Moss.”

Based around a unique concours d'elegance, with highlights including grand prix and other single-seat racing cars from all decades of the 20th Century and incorporating a series of driving tests, the weekend is being jointly organised by Brooklands Museum and Mercedes-Benz World, who hope that ‘The Double Twelve' will establish itself as an annual must-see.

Over two days, competitors will take part in a series of driving trials following layouts used in the Junior Car Club Rallies of the 1930s at Brooklands. The tests will take place in challenging environments, such as the Members' Banking and the notorious Test Hill of the original circuit, as well as on the modern handling circuits at Mercedes-Benz World.

Points awarded in the two disciplines will be combined to give an overall score, ensuring that the class and overall winners will be selected from the best drivers using the best-kept vehicles.

“The battle for the Double Twelve trophies will take into account beauty, preparation and condition as well as performance and driving skill," Allan Winn, director of the Brooklands Museum, explained, "It is this combination of disciplines which will make the event exciting for competitors and spectators alike.”
