MacKinlay's concerns added to those aired by Labour MP for Paisley North Jim Sheridan, who has vowed to write to both the head of the culture, media and sport committee, John Whittingdale, and also the Secretary of State for Culture, Media and Sport, Andy Burnham [see separate story – click here]. Sheridan has said he will ask them to look into the £200 million agreement, which has seemingly come at the expense of free-to-air televised coverage of Scotland international football ties.

“It is beyond comprehension that Scotland football fans will not be able to watch their matches on terrestrial TV,” insisted the man who is also chairman of the All-Party Scottish Football Group at Westminster. “I will be asking the committee to launch an inquiry into how the BBC came to buy the rights for Formula 1 and not the Scotland games.”
