Formula 1 » Title rivals divided on Mosley stance.

Saturday, 5th April 2008

Reigning champion insists FIA President's private life is just that, while chief rival Hamilton advocates the importance of setting a good example.

“If you're a figure like us who are racing drivers or something, you've got to try and set a good example in general,” agreed Rosberg, “because a lot of people are watching you and also looking up to what you do.

“I think it's important to also think about other people and young people. It's important to try and set a good example for people who are coming up.”

Defending word champion and form driver Kimi Raikkonen, however – the Finn no stranger to lurid tabloid allegations himself with his reputed wild partying ways – stepped in to defend Mosley, re-iterating F1 supremo Bernie Ecclestone's view that ‘private life' means just that, and as long as it has no impact on his professional judgement then there is no issue to resolve.

“It's his personal life,” ABC News quotes the 28-year-old as having said. “For me, he can do whatever he wants and it's not really my business or anybody else's to put their nose in it.”
