Williams ace hints at strong race pace.

“Here at least it is a circuit where overtaking is possible, which will be important tomorrow considering where I am starting the race.”

The Williams-Toyota package has generally been far superior around the demanding 5.412km Bahrain International Circuit than it was a week ago in Malaysia where Rosberg and Nakajima lined up 16th and 22nd on the grid – and failed to do much better in the race. The Grove-based outfit cited a new asphalt surface at Sepang as a chief cause of their problem, and technical director Sam Michael is in far more buoyant spirits a fortnight on.

“We had a better qualifying session than in Malaysia, but it was still a bit disappointing after the pace we showed in practice,” the Aussie commented afterwards. “Tomorrow will be an interesting race, especially with everyone managing tyre degradation.

“Nico is in a good position from where he can score points. Kazuki didn't qualify so well which makes his race difficult tomorrow, but he has shown that he can fight strongly and we expect to see that in the race. We'll look at any fine-tuning we can do for the race overnight.”
