The
Super Aguri F1 team has confirmed that talks are ongoing to try and secure its future with less than 24 hours until on-track action begins at the Spanish Grand Prix.
The team was thrown into turmoil last weekend when the Magma Group announced that it was pulling out of its proposed purchase after financial backers DIC decided against providing the funds required to complete the buy-out.
That announcement immediately threw the future of the team back into doubt, with
Takuma Sato and
Anthony Davidson having completed next-to-no off-season testing before the proposed Magma Group takeover allowed the Leafield-based squad to take its place on the grid for the opening races of the year in Australia, Malaysia and Bahrain.
Although the team has travelled to Barcelona ready for this weekend's race, there has yet to be any official confirmation that Sato and Davidson will take part in the event, with a brief statement issued by the team stating that discussions were continuing to try and secure the funding needed to continue.
“Further to the statement issued by Super Aguri F1 Team on Wednesday 16th April 2008 we advise that discussions regarding investment are on going, however, due to legal conditions, we are unable to expand on, allude to or provide further details regarding this confidential matter at present,” the statement said.
“We would like to thank our team partners, suppliers, our fans and colleagues in the media for their continuing patience and support, and we look forward to our weekend at the Barcelona Grand Prix.”
