"Coulthard came out in front of me and was slow on his out lap," was the German's take, "He left me a bit of space and then closed it and I crashed into him. It destroyed my front wing again and that was it."
It is not for the first time this season that Coulthard has found himself on the receiving end of a barrage of rival carbon-fibre.
In the seasonal curtain-raiser in Melbourne, he was forced into the gravel by
Ferrari's
Felipe Massa and, then, in Bahrain last month, collided with fellow Brit
Jenson Button, while again defending his position.
Webber, meanwhile, was delighted with his fifth place finish.
“I'm very, very happy,” enthused the Australian, “The team worked very hard following the test to get all the parts ready in time and it paid off. We didn't have a great start to today's race, but we had good pace and we were there at the end - it's a great to get a strong finish.
“I didn't have very good grip in the final stint, but we weren't under pressure at that point, so were okay. I'm happy with my driving and the team did an excellent job.”
Team principal Christian Horner was quick to praise both his drivers despite two results at either end of the extreme.
“It was an excellent race for Mark, well executed by both driver and team, his pace was strong all weekend and we're very pleased with fifth place," Horner said, “For David, the nightmare of yesterday's qualifying session continued. It looked as though he might be able to pick up a couple of points at one stage in the race, but unfortunately things just didn't go his way today, I'm sure his luck will change soon.”
