Having spent the majority of his nine-year
Formula 1 career competing for
Honda (from 2003 to 2005 in its former guise as BAR), the 28-year-old has also re-affirmed his commitment to the Brackley-based outfit. That is despite enduring a dismal campaign last year when he notched up just six points in the unloved RA107, having tallied as many as 56 the previous season and claimed his maiden – and thus far only – grand prix victory
en route in Hungary. His current contract is understood to run out at the end of 2008.
“Everybody's got imagination and nobody can see into the future,” Button told the official Formula 1 website, at the same time refusing to rule out a move elsewhere in the years to come.
“For the moment I am very happy with where I am and I will be with Honda next season, and that is what I am concentrating on.”
Honda CEO Nick Fry had suggested over the course of the curtain-raising Australian Grand Prix weekend back in March that both team and driver are keen to continue working together in 2009.
“He's certainly someone we want on our side,” the 51-year-old underlined, adding that Button's management and Honda chiefs would in all likelihood sit down ‘later this year'.
