Asking McLaren for preferential treatment in Monaco may not be a key to reaching that personal goal this season, however, as the Woking team continues to play catch up on its rivals, Ferrari especially. Although the Scuderia's cars have not worked as well at Monaco as their silver opponents in recent years, Hamilton is wary about writing the Italian operation off this time around, even though the McLaren showed improved form in Turkey last weekend.

"I don't think we will have the dominance we had last year because the teams are much closer," he said, eyeing the seven-point gap to championship leader Kimi Raikkonen, "I think we can put together a better package, but it will be closer."
