While it may have come a race too late for it to be a fairytale result,
Rubens Barrichello was nonetheless over the moon to get back into the points for the first time in two years with a fighting sixth place at Monaco.
Having celebrated becoming the most experienced
Formula 1 driver of all time in Turkey, Barrichello conquered his next target by featuring inside the top eight for the first time since the 2006 Brazilian Grand Prix.
Making the most of conditions where experience often prevails over youthful exuberance, Barrichello ran in the points for the majority of the race, eventually crossing the line sixth.
Indeed, while Barrichello admits he was frustrated to have been held up by
Jarno Trulli for a lot of the race, he was nonetheless was relieved to get his name back on the score sheet.
"It feels great to be back in the points today and I'm really happy for myself and for the team. We had a good race, however it was unfortunate that I was held up by Trulli for so long early on, otherwise it could have been even better."
Barrichello is now hoping the result will prompt a revival for him as he attempts to challenge for points on a more regular basis.
"I'm glad to get the monkey off my back in terms of scoring points as it has been quite a wait, but I never lost the faith. We are capable of good points results and I hope this is the start of a stronger period for us. We just need to keep our heads down and keep pushing forward."
