Four-time world champion Alain Prost has warned Formula One powerbrokers
Max Mosley and
Bernie Ecclestone to resolve their differences for the good of the sport, rather than tearing it apart.
The Frenchman - who has expressed an interest in heading up a motorsport-only
FIA - told
Gulf Times that he was afraid that the row over Mosley's extra-curricular use of prostitutes and sado-masochistic sexual practices could escalate, particularly following the weekend's exchange of letters between the two protagonists and the heads of FIA associations worldwide, who will meet to debate Mosley's future as president on 3 June.
Mosley's missive claimed that commercial entities, assumed to refer to commercial rights holder CVC Capital with Ecclestone at its head, were attempting to use the scandal as a smokescreen to take over the running of the sport. Ecclestone's reply, meanwhile denied that that was the case, but insisted that CVC would happily work with 'a strong FIA led by a respected president'....
"It could be a danger if you have a big fight for power," he said of the war of words between two men who once worked closely to shape the future of
F1, "Now is the right and perfect time to make a good decision for the future of
Formula One.
"If there is a big problem, a big fight, it would not be good for the future, for sure. I would be worried because, when you need to make the right decision in the next few weeks, there will be a big problem if there's a big war. That would not be good for the sport."
