The 23-year-old went on to underline that in his opinion luck had played a significant part in his Montreal success – in the form of
Lewis Hamilton and
Kimi Raikkonen's infamous pit-lane
contretemps – and he insisted he did not expect to find himself in such a potential race-winning position every time out. Earlier in the week he had sought to play down his title chances, despite his current position atop the points' table [see separate story –
click here].
“We won because we used the opportunity given by Ferrari and
McLaren,” he urged. “In the first races we were always there behind them, and it was good that we use these races.
“In the end I'm not feeling different [after winning]. I'm not disappointed [by BMW's Magny-Cours performance]; it's just the reality.”
With the rumour mill about who will be driving where next season getting into full swing of late, Kubica has been linked to a switch to
Ferrari, and that speculation has intensified in France with him intriguingly being listed alongside the nine Ferrari drivers to have triumphed in the French Grand Prix in the
Scuderia's official media guide for the race. Kubica insisted however that, just eight grands prix in, it was still too early to discuss 2009.
“We're not talking about next year yet because there is a long way to go,” he stressed. “I think, at least for me and for
BMW, it's not necessary to have a deal already done. We have time.”
