McLaren F1 star Heikki Kovalainen produces one of the performances of the race by gutsily battling his way from tenth on the starting grid to within a whisker of a podium finish in the French Grand Prix at Magny-Cours.

Kovalainen also received words of praise from McLaren team principal Ron Dennis and Mercedes-Benz Motorsport Vice-President Norbert Haug for his showing – alongside that of Trulli, undoubtedly one of the stand-out performances of the grand prix.

“Heikki had a brilliant afternoon,” enthused Dennis, “driving superbly and fighting all the way to the chequered flag, and only narrowly missed the podium.”

“Heikki did a great job and moved from tenth to fourth,” mirrored Haug. “It's a shame he didn't manage to pass Trulli at the end. However, for the spectators, he at least produced the fight of the race.”
