F1 commercial rights-holder Bernie Ecclestone and embattled FIA President Max Mosley prepare to lock horns over the future of the sport in a financial disagreement that could change the face of grand prix racing forever.

Furthermore, ‘light flags' – light panels around the track designed to supplement flag signals, giving race control an accurate record of what signals are shown and when – will set each team back $190,000, with a further $20,000 catering for accident data recorders on the cars, $110,000 for a pit-lane and garage communication network to replace paper messages, $75,000 for weather forecasting services and $110,000 for pit wall intercom systems.

In total, these extra charges will see the overall entry fee rise from $466,000 to $1.1m, costs that are at the moment being met by the sport's governing body. The FIA currently receives around $650,000 from Formula One Management for each grand prix, as part of the commercial agreements signed back in 2000.

With FOM believed to receive around $35m per event, grandprix.com summarises that ‘there is a clear question as to whether or not the players should be asked to pay for the playing field…'
