Nico Rosberg is eager to put on a good performance for
Williams at their home circuit as the
Formula 1 World Championship gears up for the ninth round of the season at
Silverstone.
The Northamptonshire circuit has not been a particularly happy hunting ground for Rosberg since his graduation to
F1 in 2006, the young German driver failing to score on either occasion he has raced there.
Still, given that the British Grand Prix has witnessed several memorable moments for the Williams team over the years, including their first ever grand prix win in 1979, recent times have otherwise prompted races to forget as the team have not scored at Silverstone since
Juan Pablo Montoya finished second in 2003.
Nonetheless, Rosberg is determined to change that this weekend, even if he admits the team have a job on their hands if they are to rise to the top of an increasingly crowded mid-field.
“Williams won their first Grand Prix at Silverstone back in 1979 so it's always nice when this race comes around and we can compete in front of our home crowd. We have a lot of work to do though at the moment to improve our competitiveness. To help with that, we had a three day test at Silverstone last week.
“We covered a lot of ground with the FW30, and that should help us out in the next few races. Silverstone is a great track to race on so I'm looking forward to it, and I think we'll do a lot better than we did in France.”
