Formula 1 » Button lacking motivation, says ex-F1 champ.

Friday, 4th July 2008

Honda F1 star Jenson Button is struggling to find motivation in 2008, former world champion John Surtees argues - whilst the soon-to-retire David Coulthard acknowledges: “I'm going to have to step up...”

Indeed, Coulthard sits fourth on the all-time list of the sport's most successful drivers in terms of total points scored – behind only multiple world champions Michael Schumacher, Alain Prost and Ayrton Senna, the man who he replaced when he made his grand prix debut for Williams all the way back in 1994 – and is the best-placed Briton, winning more races, setting considerably more fastest laps and registering comfortably more points than Hamilton and Button put together.

What's more, according to Swiss newspaper Blick, the Red Bull Racing star's fiancée Karen Minier – a one-time F1 TV journalist for France's TF1 channel – is pregnant with the couple's first child, meaning a new stage in DC's life could just be set to begin. Before any of that, however, he has his own aspirations and some home fans to satisfy this weekend.

“And I'm still excited about Silverstone,” he enthused.
