Takuma Sato is adamant that his future still lies in
Formula 1, after revealing that he is in talks with ‘some teams' about a possible return.
The Japanese ace was forced out of the top flight earlier this year, following the collapse of the
Honda Super Aguri outfit, but since then he has admitted that he has turned down racing offers from outside of F1 as he continues to chase a way back into the uppermost echelon.
The 31-year-old has started 90 grands prix for Jordan, BAR-Honda and Super Aguri from 2002, scoring points on 14 occasions, with highlights of third place for BAR in the 2004 US Grand Prix at Indianapolis – behind only the two dominant Ferraris of
Michael Schumacher and
Rubens Barrichello – and a front row grid slot at the Nürburgring in the same year.
Sato confirmed that he is bidding to find a way back into
F1.
“There is nothing concrete yet,” Switzerland's
Motorsport Aktuell quotes the Monaco-domiciled star as having stated. “I am speaking with some teams.
“I turned down some offers for Le Mans and from the USA, because I see my future in the sport at the grands prix.”
Sato had previously been linked with a possible shoot-out to replace the hitherto underperforming
Nelsinho Piquet at
Renault [see separate story –
