Timo Glock has admitted that there would be no better place to inject a little more pace into his 2008
Formula One campaign than on home soil, at Hockenheim, in next weekend's German Grand Prix.
After the high of fourth place in the Canadian Grand Prix, the reigning GP2 Series champion managed only eleventh at Magny-Cours and twelfth at
Silverstone on Sunday, and admits that he was particularly disappointed after the
Toyota team had shown promise in both events.
"The facts are that I qualified twelfth and finished twelfth, which is not what I was hoping for after the pre-race test, when we had looked pretty strong," he said of the British GP weekend, "I was hoping to qualify in the top ten and follow up our strong performance at Magny-Cours, where Jarno finished on the podium, but we lost time on Friday. I had a clutch problem and missed a lot of the second free practice session. We were playing catch-up a little after that.
"[Fourth place in Montreal] was a little bit unexpected, but it was a good result - and then the team was strong in the French Grand Prix too. It would be great for the team and myself to score some more top five results this season, and Hockenheim would be a good place to start."
Growing up just 45 minutes from Hockenheim, next weekend's race is a 'home' event in more ways than one for Glock, who raced on the old layout in his formative years - 'it was Formula
BMW in my first year of single-seaters, the cars were all the same speed so it was just one a huge battle - but has since found success on the new, shorter circuit.
"I had a couple of good races there in F3, as well as in GP2, and it has totally different characteristics," he noted, "Sometimes it's a shame that tracks like the old Hockenheim are replaced by new, computer-generated, circuits but I think they have done a very good job. The new track has already hosted some good races, and that's important.
