Formula 1 » Ferrari want end to 'stupid mistakes' in F1.

Thursday, 10th July 2008

Any more 'stupid mistakes' like those witnessed at Silverstone in the British Grand Prix last weekend will cost Ferrari the 2008 F1 World Championship, Scuderia's president warns.

Ferrari president Luca di Montezemolo has angrily insisted that there can be no more room for the type of ‘stupid mistakes' that saw the Scuderia perform so abysmally in the British Grand Prix at Silverstone last weekend.

Whilst Kimi Raikkonen eventually came home fourth around the Northants circuit – thereby to some extent limiting the damage inflicted by Lewis Hamilton's peerless victory for McLaren-Mercedes – between the Finn and team-mate Felipe Massa, who placed a twice-lapped 13th and last, no fewer than seven spins were recorded by the two scarlet machines over the course of the 60-lap, rain-drenched race.

As Ferrari bids to defend both its drivers' and constructors' world crowns from 2007, the Maranello-based concern's team principal Stefano Domenicali admitted that the squad had committed performance, strategy, driver and even weather forecasting errors throughout the Silverstone weekend – and not for the first time this season, di Montezemolo pointed out.

“We can not commit any more stupid mistakes as we did last Sunday if we want to win the world championship,” the 60-year-old insisted, speaking to Italian sports newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport.

“Naturally it was unpleasant to watch a race such as ours', but I hope it will serve as a lesson to my guys, and I have no doubt that will be the case.

“We are in the lead in the championship. We [have] missed too many opportunities altogether, so we cannot afford any more.”
