Timo Glock is set to use
Formula One's traditional summer break to get to grips with another of the marque's famous racing machines, with a date behind the wheel of a Toyota-powered Eagle MkIII GTP at Laguna Seca.
The German will be in California to take part in this year's Toyota Race of Legends charity event, where he will be ranged - in identical race-equipped 2.4 litre Scion tC sport coupes - against a field of F1 past-masters including Eddie Cheever, Johnny Herbert, Jean-Pierre Jarier, Alan Jones, Danny Sullivan, Patrick Tambay and John Watson, as well as F1 and sportscar hero Derek Bell, who returns to defend his 'title' in an eight-lap shoot-out around the dramatic Laguna Seca layout.
While the race will provide a little fun for Glock, the German will also use the 35th annual Rolex Monterey Historic Automobile Races, which is presented by
Toyota, to get a taste of the 750-horsepower Eagle, which dominated the IMSA GTP series in the early ‘90s.
Only six such cars were constructed, and Glock will drive chassis #2. The Eagle ran off a string of 17 consecutive victories in 1992 and 1993, captured two drivers' and two manufacturers' championship titles, as well as winning at both
Daytona and Sebring.
The Rolex Monterey Historic Automobile Races takes place over 15-17 August.
