Formula 1 » Hamilton: Singapore will be new challenge.

Friday, 25th July 2008

F1 world championship leader Lewis Hamilton has admitted that September's inaugural Singapore Grand Prix will be a challenge, but insists that he is up to it.

"It is an unknown circuit, but what I will do is to get there early," he revealed, "I'll run the circuit, walk it with my engineers - maybe the streets will be open to the public, so we can drive around too. It's really just making sure that I have covered everything - all the bumps, all the curves."

Singapore, of course, is not the only new venue on this year's Formula One schedule, with another street race, in Valencia, re-opening the season after the brief summer interlude that follows next weekend's Hungarian round. Another brand new location, Abu Dhabi, closes next year's calendar, while India and Korea head the queue to join the list from 2010.

"We have a couple of circuits this year that we have never seen before, so it's quite a challenge," Hamilton said, "When we arrive on the Friday, we have two hours practice [sic], which is really 30 laps a session, so not a long time. I've got out there and learn the circuit as well. For me, I think it is a distinct advantage that I learn circuits so quickly."
