Formula 1 » Mosley files lawsuit against German 'paper.

Saturday, 26th July 2008

Max Mosley is to take legal action against Germany's largest newspaper.

Following confirmation that FIA president Max Mosley is to take further action against the News of the World and sue the British tabloid 'paper for libel, it appears that German newspaper Bild is now in the firing line too.

According to reports by the Daily Mail alongside the libel proceedings, he has also filed a £1.2 million lawsuit against the publishers of Bild, claiming breach of trust, violation of copyright laws and fraud relating to the newspaper's purchase of the video footage from the News of the World.

Mosley was awarded £60,000 on Thursday this week in London after Mr Justice Eady ruled in his favour following his privacy action against the British tabloid for it's reporting of what was described as a 'Nazi-style sex orgy' with five prostitutes in a Chelsea flat.

In his summing up, Mr Justice Eady revealed that while Mosley was partly the architect of his own problems for allowing himself to be caught up the scandal, it didn't excuse the invasion into his private life - and said that there was no evidence to suggest that the gathering on 28 March 2008 was 'intended to be an enactment of Nazi behaviour or adoption of any of its attitudes. Nor was it in fact'.

Some fear that the ruling could have serious implications for Press freedom and editor of the News of the World, Colin Myler told reporters this week that the British media is 'being strangled' by privacy laws coming from Europe.

More to follow as and when it develops...
