Toro Rosso co-owner Gerhard Berger has praised Sebastian Vettel as a driver who 'doesn't have any real weaknesses'.

Having made his debut in Formula 1 last season with BMW before being drafted in to replace Scott Speed at Toro Rosso, Vettel has enjoyed a solid first full year in the sport this year having rebounded well from a nightmare start that saw him forced to retire from the first four races; with three of those retirements coming on the opening lap.

However, the introduction of the new car in Monaco led to an upturn in fortunes for the young German with points coming in half of the six races since then as he showed the talent that has been enough to secure a drive with Red Bull for the 2009 season.

Vettel has also outperformed team-mate Sebastien Bourdais during the season to date, with the Frenchman having failed to score since the season opener in Melbourne, and Berger said it was important for the Frenchman to start picking up results.

"Sebastian Vettel is a good guy and there isn't really anything that I would say is a weakness," he said. "He needs a bit more experience but the rest I would say is really great. It will hurt us that Vettel won't be with us next year.

"Bourdais had the first half of the year to see how Formula 1 works as it is new to him and he needs to learn. He had some good races and some not so good races. Now in the second half of the season he needs to bring the results."

Berger added that he was pleased with the season so far for the team, which has enjoyed a noticeable upturn in fortunes to challenge towards the points and become a realistic contender for a slot in the final phase of qualifying.
