Team JLR's Marko Asmer took his debut drive in an
F1 car earlier this month, with three days testing for the
BMW WilliamsF1 team in Italy.
His climb to the highest echelon of motorsport came much sooner than even Team JLR anticipated! The young Estonian has made a huge impact within the team, moving up from racing karts less than six months ago to be on the pace immediately in his first season of Formula Ford.
Having so far completed two races in the Southern and Northern Formula Ford Championships and four rounds of the British Championship, Asmer's results speak for themselves. Two wins from pole positions, taking fastest laps along the way, a fourth and two fifth positions.
Team JLR's Richard Dean commented: "Having worked with Marko for only a very short period of time, nobody at Team JLR was surprised to hear Marko's F1 testing went very smoothly. He is one cool customer, very professional and can only get better and better.
"It is quite remarkable for him to be on the pace while still learning the circuits and especially when you look at the experience of his competitors. For example, the winner of the last round of the Championship, Alx Danielsson, is in his fifth season of Formula Ford, Marko took part in only his fifth ever race earlier this month."
Team JLR move on to
Thruxton in Hampshire for Rounds Five and Six this bank holiday Monday, May 26th. All the Formula Ford action can be seen on TV with regular repeats shown on the
Motors Sky satellite channel.
