Red Bull super subs
Sebastian Vettel and Adrian Zaugg put in incredible performances considering their lack of testing and time with the team. Adrian did a great job to get two second places in
Donington Park. We couldn’t have asked anymore from Sebastian than his pole position and two race wins in Misano. Unfortunately, his hand injury at Spa probably prevented two more brilliant results. Working with him over that period, it’s easy to see why the BMW Sauber F1 team have signed him as test driver and I’m delighted he’ll be joining us in World Series next year. I think we’ll be challenging for the championship from the beginning next season and look forward to a big Red Bull push in 2007.
We’re now busy preparing for 2007 and our first season in GP2. We’ve been ready for GP2 for about twelve months, but unfortunately, things didn’t quite work out in time for last season. To enter the series with David Price Racing is a great advantage as we join a team which already has knowledge and experience of GP2. DPR is a good team, and didn’t get the results it deserved last season. Hopefully, we will be able to change that.
We’ve brought in Roly Vincini who I respect hugely, as chief race engineer. I know Roly will get on and do the job and demand the most from the technical team. He has great experience of leading a team in an international series and played a pivotal role in taking Alx Danielsson to the 2006 World Series championship last season.
Gaining entry into GP2 adds another element to Carlin. We are building a unique team which has the ability to see a driver from Formula
BMW, right through to the door of
F1. For this reason, we won’t be turning our back on the lower formulas and they will remain an essential part of Carlin Motorsport.
