That being the case, I was very happy with the results we achieved in the second round at
Donington Park – with Esteban Guerrieri finishing sixth in the first race and Michael Devaney seventh in the second. It was great for everybody at both Mygale and Ultimate. I’m very proud of what we have all achieved together so far, but we all know we have to push even harder now. We are all very aware it will take time to develop a new car and establish a new team and get everything working together perfectly, but everybody here is extremely motivated to succeed.
We are also very happy to have the best engine in the car in Mercedes – if you want to succeed in F3, you need to have a strong engine. You need strong drivers too, and with Esteban and Michael we are very lucky. I’ve known Michael for a long time from Formula
BMW, while Esteban for sure has a lot of speed and natural talent.
We need two positive drivers, people who trust that tomorrow will be better than today, and one of Esteban’s biggest qualities is that he is a very positive guy. Maybe that’s partly to do with him being Argentine and therefore more expressive. It’s very important to us to have two quick drivers who are also both very strong in their heads.
One change since the start of the season has obviously been the recent departure of team principal Simon Armstrong. I’m not involved in the day-to-day business at Ultimate, but I think at this stage it’s entirely normal to have some changes when an organisation is being established. That doesn’t surprise me. I don’t know what effect it will have on the team, but I do believe it’s a natural stage in the evolution of a new organisation. Simon did a very good job and I wish him well for the future.
The next round we go to now is in Romania on 20 May. I don’t know Bucharest at all, but I think it will be a place where everybody starts from scratch. We have good drivers and engines and both the team and the car are making progress, so I think it will be very interesting.
