In the latest exclusive Ultimate Motorsport column on Crash.net, Esteban Guerrieri looks back over the last three rounds – including a starring one-off performance in the F3 Euroseries at Magny-Cours – and ahead to what the Argentine hopes will be more of the same at Brands Hatch this weekend…
A lot has happened in the last month or so for the team – and things are moving in the right direction! Round four of the 2007 British F3 season at
Snetterton at the beginning of June was disastrous for us, but those memories already seem to be so long ago. We haven’t raced on UK soil since then but we have had some fantastic races abroad, so we are expecting something a little different when we return!
We went to Snetterton with great expectations because we had been very fast in testing, but all weekend we suffered braking problems and we made a few mistakes set-up wise. We never had a proper-handling car in either qualifying or the race. Mick’s (Devaney – team-mate) wasn’t so bad, but for me it was effectively a lost weekend and that was a shame.
Going away from there again without even being able to feel the car properly was not disappointing as such, but it was rather worrying. We didn’t know what the problem was so we couldn’t solve anything, but we just had to put it behind us and keep pushing like we always do. The team is constantly learning, and we must simply try to make the fewest mistakes possible.
In the next round at Monza we got some good results, which at the end of the day is what counts. We were still struggling with the brakes on my car, however; it’s a problem we’ve had for a long time and I don’t know why. We need to improve that, because most of the time I’m losing is under braking which is a bit frustrating.
